Meet the NetSAW member who cares about Education

Interview with NetSAW member Gauri Chandna

Gauri is an engineer by training. She started exploring the education system in Central Massachusetts when her son was 2 years old and realized that she could do something to fill up the
gaps that she saw as an Asian parent.  Thus was born Aadhaarshila (a.k.a ATFS Learning Center) in March 2002.  Starting out as a tutoring program, Aadhaarshila has now evolved into a full fledged learning center that offers after-school homework help, private tutoring, accelerated learning, take-out self study materials and summer enrichment programs.  In addition, Math Bee, Spelling Bee and Science Bee take place every year. Aadhaarshila bought its own facility in 2005 and ever since has opened up doors to many local organizations who conduct meetings and classes for the South Asian community at the facility.

1. How have you integrated your life and your business and developed your business brand?

I strongly believe that there is an immense power, energy and strength that expresses its potential through us. All we need to do is match it, and let the harmony spectacularly display itself. We need to become the gateway, and open wide enough to let that passion come alive. Through internal focus, and introspection, we can find that resonance that integrates everything in our lives. We
think it, feel it, believe in it and approach it in an unstoppable fashion and everything else, including our personal lives, align itself with it. I emit this message through all my communications and interactions and the brand follows this passion, while our work speaks this language as well.

2. What one thing have you have learned when building your business that has served you well over the years?

Seek more business, value what you get. It’s what you were aiming for. Give your best to maintain it, but don’t be disheartened if you lose it. If you lose it, analyze it learn from it and move on with the experience. Don’t let that shake you up or doubt your own competence.

3. What is the key measure(s) of success for you and your number one business goal over the next year?

Expansion – We have increased our enrollments this year and hope to continue to grow at a steady pace. We are exploring various options for the next few months and hopefully will have some great announcements pretty soon related to our growth.  We understand attrition is unavoidable, so we just make up for it through larger enrollments. I do believe that businesses always run on an incline. It will either go up or come down. This year is the ‘up’ year for us.

4. What is the best advice you have received in business that you would wish to pass on to NetSAW members?

When you love what you do, and do only what you love, everything comes spontaneously, effortlessly and less strenuously. Then the process itself is the accomplishment and results loose their significance. And yet, you accomplish a lot more, by doing a lot less. What I have chosen to do for work, is my only passion.  I love it so much that it does not seem like work. And constant self-evaluation and improvement keeps me going…

Ability is what you’re capable of,
Motivation will prompt what you do,
Mindfulness will actuate when you do it,
Attitude will energize how well you do it,
Passion will stimulate why you do it.
Courage will kick it right off,
Integrity will sustain it.
All together this will arouse you and make you come alive…
Once these virtues are in place, the consequences are too.

5. What do you do for fun?

I like to cook, read, walk, do yoga, sing, dance, write blogs, and stay connected with all my friends through facebook.  Every person I have met throughout my life, I like to stay connected with if I can, learn from them, hear them, talk to them. Communicate with them, share with them, feel what they feel, stay happy, enriched and energized and spread the same vibes all around me.
